Fudan Holds Academic Culture Week and Science Symposium to Celebrate its 112th Anniversary
The Academic Culture Week and 51st University Science Symposium were held on May 23 to commemorate the University’s 112th Anniversary. Bao Xinhe, CAS Academician and executive Vice President of Fudan, Liu Chenggong, University Party Secretary and over 400 teachers and students attended the event.
The Symposium is regarded as the grandest academic activity of the University. Four scholars from the areas of arts, sciences, medicine and engineering are invited every year to share the cutting-edge achievements with Fudan teachers and students. This academic practice began in 1954, when Former Fudan President Chen Wangdao, initiated the organization of a symposium to promote scientific research and encourage students to contribute to society through academic work.
Professor Hu Anning from School of Social Development and Public Policy, Professor Yu Yanlei from Department of Material Science, Professor Gao Qiang from Zhongshan Hospital and Professor Chi Nan form Deportment of Information Science and Engineering were invited this year to share their research findings.
Professor Hu addressed the philosophy of scientific research in his talk. He has been engaging himself in the research on cultural and religious sociology, educational sociology, social inequality, quantitative research methods in social sciences and has published more than 40 papers on reputable journals at home and abroad.
Professor Yu shared her experiences of LCD research and emphasized the spirit of pursuing academic perfection. She has published more than 70 SCI papers and owned 11 patents. Her publication on Nature was honored as one of the top 10 Science and Technology Events of Shanghai in 2016.
Professor Gao, as a representative of the field of medicine, made a speech entitled “Clinical and Scientific Research – Experience of Medical Practice”. He has published 40 papers with a cumulative impact factor of 270 and supervised a total of 15 research projects. He is also Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Member of the International Association of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (ILCA).
Professor Chi introduced to the audience her work on high-speed real-time visible light communication systems. Her achievement was honored by the Innovation Award at the 15th International Industry Fair Exhibition.
