Orientation Week for New Exchange Students Successfully Concluded

As the last ice-breaking activity ended on March 4th, the First Orientation Week for New Exchange Students organized by Students’ Union was successfully concluded. Starting from February 26th, the orientation week attracted more than 300 exchange students from Hong Kong, Macau and abroad who arrived at Fudan University for Spring Semester 2018. During the week, group games, lectures and outdoor activities are organized to help them adapt to campus life and better understand traditional Chinese cultures and customs.

The first five days, February 26th to March 2nd , are packed with introductory activities and cultural experiences. By campus walking tours, campus orientation and exploration of the district center Wujiaochang, students got familiar with the campus and its surroundings. The visit to the university museum gave them basic understandings of the history and spirit of Fudan. The lecture about tourist attractions and foods in China, the celebration of the Lantern Festival, and the dumpling-making class helped them understand traditional Chinese culture. They have also participated in film shows and introduction to popular apps, which were highly praised along with other activities.

During the last two days, March 3rd and 4th, the Buddy Program initiated and co-organized by Foreign Affairs Office and Students’ Union was held at Student Square, Guanghua Building. Aiming to find a Chinese language partner for every exchange student, this program attracted more than 200 participants each day, setting a record in the program’s history. All students participated in activities of friendship and communication with enthusiasm. Also, exchange students deepened their understandings of traditional Chinese cultures by paper-cut and Chinese knots, both representative of traditional handcrafts.

The First Orientation Week for New Exchange Students had a very positive  impact on newcomers to the University, also it promoted communications among all students on campus, fostered their international visions and helped everyone become a whole person, which are conductive to building a harmonious campus. In the future, exchange students in Fudan University will continue to explore Shanghai and China from various perspectives. They will improve themselves and promote the exchange of different cultures as they dig deeper into Chinese culture and bring it to the world.
