Fudan Welcomes the Class of 2019!

Last weekend, the Class of 2019 gathered from all over the world, with over 3,000 undergraduate students and 9,000 graduate students included. This year, more than 800 foreign students from 70 plus countries and regions have joined Fudan family.

Chairperson of University Council Jiao Yang, Vice President Gui Yonghao, Vice Chairperson of University Council Yuan Zhenghong and Yin Dongmei came to the scene and visited undergraduate students’ dormitories to greet the freshmen and their parents. One day earlier,Vice President Zhang Renhe had attended the first-year postgraduate students’ registration to welcome the students.

AI technology has been used for freshmen registration in the four campuses this year. The robot “Xiaoying” was able to read students’ identity and complete freshmen registration within merely two seconds through AI facial recognition and “answer” questions from the freshmen. The application of AI technology will be more pervasive in the university, thus providing more convenience in experiencing campus life for the students.

Zhide College, Tengfei College, Keqing College, Renzhong College and Xide College, the names of which are respectively taken after the five distinguished former presidents of Fudan University, together constituting the Fudan College, are the first stops for the undergraduate freshmen. This year, over 96 percent of the undergraduate freshmen are born in the 00s.

Each freshman has received a packet of customized gifts (guides, notebooks, key rings, etc.), which would be helpful for them to adapt to the new campus life.

At the parents’ meeting, the whole view of the campuses and live broadcast of the reception day were presented through 5G network and unmanned aerial photography.

Freshmen have also received customized “maps”(guides)on trash sorting and campus services from the university. The Express Centers recently launched on Jiangwan campus and Handan Campus will offer more efficient delivery services. Our canteens also prepared special freshmen biscuits carved with the Fudan logo and motto.

Fudan is committed to facilitating the adjustment of students to the Fudan community. This year, we have continued withthe Green Passage for those in need of extra financial support.

Two months ago, the university announced the activity of Taking a Photo with Your Fudan Admission Letter and received photos from more than 500 students. As a special welcoming gift, they could claim an exclusive postcard on which their photos are printed on this Welcome Day.

A tercet reading session themed “My homeland and I” was held on site. New students read out aloud their best wishes to China for its 70th birthday, determined to contributing to country’s development in the 21st century.
