Main Functions:

Fudan University's Foreign Affairs Office is a functional organization responsible for schoolwork related to foreign affairs. It is designated to carry out national foreign policies and educational policies with relation to foreign affairs, deal with all schoolwork of foreign affairs. She bears dual duties of strictly following foreign policy and foreign affairs management. Specifically speaking, the Office is to manage, guide, coordinate, and provide services for any foreign-related work in the school. The Office consists of Foreign Faculty Affairs & Logistics office, Exchange office, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs office, and Development and Research Committee office. Every office is to work in coordination with other offices. Their duties are as follows:

Duty of General Office:

  • Be responsible for the communication and preparation of foreign visits arranged by State Foreign Ministry, State Ministry of Education, Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affair Office, and Shanghai Education Committee, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and other universities and research institutions in daily reception of visiting foreign guests.
  • Responsible for routines and logistic work of Foreign Affairs Office.
  • To gather information of the reception of foreign guests; to make out a weekly reception schedule, and to finalize a monthly brief report on its work on foreign and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan affairs.
  • To prepare introductory manuals and gifts for foreign guests.
  • To sort out archives and documents of Foreign Affairs Office.
  • To make out plans to employ long-term foreign experts, to arrange for their visa, residence, extension, credential renewal; to plan weekend activities and vacations, and to summarize the teaching and foreign affairs.
  • To make out annual plans of employing short-term experts; to apply for the approval of the plan; to arrange activities for them, to choose a model program and to write performances summaries.
  • To hold international conferences. To facilitate different colleges, departments and institutions in submitting application to the Ministry of Education, to see to the setup of conference organization committee; to arrange visa for the foreign guests; to participate in the conference organization work, and to finalize a report on its work to the Ministry of Education and other authorities.
  • To accept the applications for the titles of "consulting professor", "honorary professor", "honorary doctor", and "honorary and consulting researcher"; to submit them to the school leaders, and on approval arrange for detailed work such as the speech, layout of the venue concerning awarding ceremonies.
  • To finalize a half-year, annual and five-year plans including relative materials, graphs, statistics and files in compliance with the requirements of the State, the Ministry of Education, Shanghai municipal education commission, and Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Duty of Exchange Office:

  • Interschool exchanges. That is, to promote academic exchanges and cooperation according to agreements signed with ninety-five universities and research institutions from more than twenty countries and regions. The scope of task includes recommending and receiving exchange fellows and students between Fudan University and other universities.
  • Foreign receptions include reception of some important foreign guests and visitors from other universities and colleges that have intercommunion with Fudan University. It also arranges foreign visits by school leaders and tries to promote foreign exchanges by conducting early-stage preparation and receptions.
  • Other duties include receiving short-term graduate students from other universities and research institutions that have intercommunion with Fudan University regularly or irregularly, and trying to get in touch with foreign enterprises and their Shanghai offices.

Duty of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office:

  • To strictly carry out state policies concerning Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas due to the sensitivity of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas work.
  • Be responsible for the reception of scholars, teachers and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas who are arranged to visit and hold exchanges in Fudan University through Hong Kong and Macao Affair Office and the Taiwan Affair Office under the State Council, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affair Office under the Ministry of Education, Xinhua News Agency Hong Kong branch and Macao branch, and Shanghai municipal government, etc.
  • Be responsible for receiving guests from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas who indirectly contact us through other universities and colleges and research institutions.
  • To coordinate with different colleges and departments in receiving scholars, teachers and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas who visit, lecture and study in Fudan University and meet their demands.
  • To participate in the reception of board of trustee, alumni and guests from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas.
  • To hold teaching and academic exchanges with R&D institution from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
