The Department is the successor to the former Office of the Development and Research Committee. As the University's window to the world outside, it endeavors to enhance the influence and position of Fudan. It fully utilizes all the social resources from both home and abroad to raise funds for the University and to accelerate its development. The Department also keeps contact with Fudan's alumni and alumnae, who are eager to offer original ideas for the tomorrow of their alma mater. It consists of the Foundation Office, the Donation Management Office, the Secretariat of the University Directorate and the Alumni Liaison Office.

Its specific responsibilities include:

1. Managing the daily affairs of the Fudan Development Funds;
2. Accepting social endowments and donations on behalf of the University and allocating them to the concerned departments;
3. Applying for academic awards for students and faculty from the general public, and supervising their operations;
4. Managing the programs sponsored by the China Medical Board of New York Inc. (CMB);
5. Managing the coordination and contact with the alumni of Fudan and the former Shanghai Medical University at home and abroad, and conducting relevant business.
