The Office of Liberal Arts Research was established in September 1999, with its predecessor being the Office of Social Sciences Research. Under the guidance and direction of both the Party committee and executive provosts of Fudan, it plans, organizes, and coordinates researches in the fields of humanities and social sciences for the University. It is also an administrative division to evaluate and award the research outcomes, and to manage the concerned research institutes of the University
