As a major of politics, Yan graduated from the International
Politics Department of Fudan in July 1988, and got his master's
degree in the same discipline in July 1991. During his university
days, he was Chair of Shanghai Students' Union, a delegate to the
10th People's Congress of Yangpu District, and Deputy Secretary of
the Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) of Fudan
University. In July 1991, he began working at the University, where
he served successively as Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the CYLC
Committee, Associate Director of the Publicity Division of the Party
Committee, Associate Director of the Personnel Department, Director
of the Students' Affair Office, and Party Secretary of the School of
Journalism. From September, 1998 to August, 1999, he was a visiting
scholar in Keio University, Japan.
His major teaching and research focus is on politics and
administration. Many of his theses have been published, including
"An Attempt to Enunciate Deng Xiao-ping's Integration of Patriotism
and Socialism", "Opening Up and Patriotic Education", "How to
Promote Oversea Studies under the Guidance of Deng Xiao-ping's
Theory", "The Modernization of Higher Education and the Construction
of Collegiate Faculties", "Challenges to the Functions of the Rural
Primary CPC Organizations and Our Answers", and "Hazards and Hopes:
An Investigation Report on the Primary Education and Social
Development in the Remote Regions of Yunan". He also co-wrote books
like The Reports on China's Development (published by the Shanghai
People's Publishing House in 1996 and 1997), An Introduction to
Collegiate Life (published by Fudan University Press in 1994), and
was one of the authors of College Faculty Construction (the 10th
Issue). Besides, he has conducted investigations for important
policies of the Ministry of Education, such as the Trans-century
Talents Training Program and "Further Opening-up and
Government-sponsored Overseas Studies". |
