In February 1977, he got his bachelor's degree from the Chemistry
Department of Fudan, majoring in organic chemistry. At Fudan, he
used to be Director of the Personnel Division, a Vice-chair of the
School of Technological Science & Engineering, and Assistant to the
President. Since May 1999, he has been a Vice-president of Fudan. In
June 2005, he was promoted to Executive Vice-president of the
University.
He has focused his researches on faculty management, the
organization and management of engineering innovations, and the
socialization of college logistics. He has published more than fifty
papers. He is the director of the following projects: "Surveys of
the Training of the Young and Middle-aged Key Teachers", "Researches
on the Development and Management of the Faculty in the Institutions
of Higher Education", "Organization of Engineering Science
Innovations". His paper, "How to Enliven Our Thoughts and Help the
Young and Middle-aged Key Teachers to Grow", won him an Outstanding
Achievement Prize from the Shanghai Association of Higher Education
Research. His other papers, "Researches on the Faculty Structure in
the 21st Century", "Practice and Review on the Internationalization
of Higher Education", and "The Establishment of the Talent Market
and the Construction of the Faculty" won a Thesis Award from the
Research Association of College Faculty Management.
He is a co-author of the book Psychology of Faculty Management and
one of the founders of the Fudan-Ford Institute of Automobile
Electronics. He has headed a number of delegations to the U.S.,
Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong for international conferences and
investigations. He was awarded the titles of "Shanghai Pace-setter
in the New Long March" in 1979 and "Outstanding Education Worker of
Shanghai" in 1992.
