Fudan University
Graduate School
Fudan University is one of the first higher education institutions
that have established postdoctoral research stations. Fudan's
postdoctoral program has now extended its academic range to
twenty-five fields, namely, philosophy, theoretical economics,
applied economics, political science, Chinese language and
literature, foreign language and literature, journalism and
communication, history, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology,
mechanics, electronic science and technology, computer science and
technology, management, business administration, material science
and engineering, biomedical engineering, basic medicine, public
health and preventive medicine, public administration,
pharmacological science, integration of Chinese and western
medicine, and clinical medicine. The twenty-five Level-I disciplines
to which those stations belong cover 110 doctoral programs, 98.2% of
the 113 at Fudan. Since the first nationwide recruitment of
postdoctoral researchers in 1985, the gross number of Fudan's
postdoctoral enrollment has reached over 890. The current number of
the researchers in the stations is 303. Researchers who have
completed their projects are generally qualified for associate or
full professorship. More than ten of them have become doctoral
supervisors. According to rough statistics, researchers who have
conducted postdoctoral research at Fudan have won a second prize of
the National Science Awards and a first prize of the Awards for the
Advancement of Science and Technology of the former National
Education Committee. Two of them have won the titles of Excellent
Youth Scholars given by Hong Kong Qiu-shi Foundation and five have
become Outstanding Post-doctors of China. More than ten have been
awarded with the Science and Technology prizes and honors by
provincial or municipal governments.
Fudan is equipped with advanced facilities for teaching and
research, including three libraries respectively for liberal arts,
science and medicine with a total collection of over 4.16 million
books and more than 25,000 periodicals, and over 130 laboratories,
of which five are nationally key. Besides, the University has
provided the postdoctoral researchers with good living facilities.
Supported and funded by the Ministry of Personnel, the National
Supervisory Committee for Post-doctor Programs, the Shanghai Bureau
of Personnel and the Public Finance Department of Shanghai Municipal
Government, Fudan has built for its post-doctor fellows two
exclusive apartment buildings, well decorated with living facilities
and furnishings. Currently, there are more than 200 such apartments
with two rooms or two rooms plus a parlor. And by the year of 2004,
there had been more apartments for post-doctor fellows put into use.
Fudan is now expanding the postdoctoral funds to promote the
development of the postdoctoral program and to encourage more
research achievements at a higher level. The University is enhancing
its administration of the postdoctoral program, establishing and
adjusting relevant rules and regulations for the purpose of forming
a better environment for postdoctoral researchers to work, live and
develop.
Fudan was one of the Top Ten Advanced Units of Postdoctoral Programs
in 1997.
