Brief introduction
The Physical Education Division is a department of education and
administration under the direct leadership of the Vice-president in
charge. Its Party branch is directly affiliated to the University's
CPC Committee. It manages physical education at Fudan, primarily in
the four fields: regular students' P.E. courses, training of the
school athletic teams, public sports and scientific researches.
The physical education in Fudan is guided by the principle of
enhancing students' health. It lays emphasis on carrying out the
Working Statutes of School Physical Education. The department
devotes itself to forming a good atmosphere for teaching and
learning, exploring various efficient ways to seeking innovations,
standardizing documents, optimizing rules and regulations, improving
teaching methods and enhancing teaching efficiency. It exerts great
efforts in managing the training of the athletic teams and
concentrates its focus on building up good work ethics. As to the
public athletic activities, it is the guide and advisor for the
development of the student sports societies. It keeps and enriches
the tradition of morning exercise and extra-curriculum activities.
It also conducts multifarious sports competitions on campus. In the
area of research, it strictly follows the guidelines of integrating
the scientific researches with the practical physical education of
the University.
The faculty and staff of the division now consists of fifty-three
persons, among whom are three full professors, eleven associate
professors, eighteen lecturers, twelve assistants and nine clerks.
In the recent ten years, the concern of the University management
and the efforts of the P.E. Division faculty and staff have yielded
great achievements in the aforementioned four fields. Many teachers
have been awarded with many honorary titles of University, Municipal
or even National Outstanding Workers. Fudan University has likewise
been awarded with many honorary titles for its promising
achievements in physical education by the Shanghai Education
Committee, the Shanghai Physical Culture & Sports Commission, the
National Education Committee and the National Physical Culture &
