 Born
in Yuyao, Zhejiang province, Professor Lu graduated from the
Department of Foreign Language and Literature of Fudan University in
1962 and got his master's degree in 1965 from the same department.
Since then on, he has remained to be a teacher in Fudan University. In
1978, he was promoted as the associate professor and professor in
1985. Later in 1990, Mr. Lu was approved as the doctoral student
supervisor and graduate student tutor. In addition, he participated in
the compilation of New English-Chinese Dictionary in 1970 and was one
of the main designers and decision-makers. Since 1976, Mr. Lu has
participated in its preparation and compilation of Big English-Chinese
Dictionary, and became the chief editor in November, 1986. Recommended
by the famous linguistics Lv Shuxiang and Xu Guozhang and strictly
checked in May, 1987, Big English-Chinese Dictionary was listed as the
key subject of the Seven-Five Planning project of National philosophy
and social science, which was also signed by the well-known scholar
Qian Zhongshu. The first half volume was published in Summer 1989 and
awarded the first prize of Chinese Publications of Sept. 1989, which
was unprecedented in history. The later half was published in
Autumn,1991 and was awarded the special prize of Shanghai Excellent
Publications. In January,1994, this dictionary was awarded the first
National Publications of China and the special prize of Shanghai
Philosophy and Social Science accomplishment. Mr. Lu was authorized
the title Outstanding Professor of Fudan University in Sept. 1994.
During the period from 1981 to 1986, five times he had made academic
communication, delivered speeches and attended international meeting
to the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. After the
Shakespeare Studies in the United Kingdom, he studied intensively the
Shakespeare plays while compiling the Big English-Chinese Dictionary
and published many papers named "broad vision makes simple and
diversification leads to the best------argumentation on the volume of
Shakespeare's plays" and "consideration after the
scenario------argumentation on the first Shakespeare plays' festival",
by which he presented the idea that the connection of books and stages
be connected, approach Shakespeare from a diversified angle and
understand Shakespeare correctly. Since 1989, he has acted as the
vice-director of Chinese Shakespeare Studies. What's more, Mr. Lu
participated in the translation work. Since the 1970s, he has
published many translation works on arts and commentaries such as the
youth lion, money dealer (collaborated), prisoner of No.2 street and
sharks (about 2 million Chinese characters) and some translation on
arts and films such as China's Landscape, China (over 100 million). In
addition to these, his publications include:
Format-Most-Important-----Taboos in Translation, Argument on
Translation Tongue, and Plain is the Truth-----reviewing the
translation contest held by the Translation Corpus, presenting the
idea of understanding and conveying thoughts to the greatest extent,
remaining the original style and never pursuing the excellent words in
translation. Mr. Lu is also the director of Shanghai Translator
Committee. Altogether, he has published about 40 papers both at home
and abroad (including H.K.). As a scholar, Mr. Lu always keep his
studies with practice. He was ever invited to attend international
economic and cultural meetings and acted as the interpreter. Many
times has he translated the speeches of the Mayor of Shanghai and
assumed the chief translator of Shanghai economic delegation to H.K.
and Singapore. He is also a member of the China Writer sub-Committee
in Shanghai. |
