School Affiliated to Fudan University
The High School Affiliated to Fudan University, a key boarding
school, is now under the co-leadership of the Shanghai Education
Committee and Fudan University. Established in 1950, the School used
to be a common high school governed by Fudan and the Municipal
Education Bureau in the 1960s. Not until 1962 did it become one of
the key high schools of Shanghai.
The School has so far occupied a campus of exactly 75.96 mu. Today
it has the floor area of about 42,000 square meters and the green
coverage area of nearly 10,500 square meters.
Two reading rooms for the students in the school library with an
area of 615 square meters are capable of seating 364 persons. A room
for the teaching materials has an area of 175.6 square meters.
Information of approximately one hundred thousand volumes has been
stored into the computer system of the electronic reading room. In
addition to this, the circulation of the books (five copies every
student each month on average) is controlled by the intranet.
Furthermore, the School has a number of up-to-date laboratories for
physics, chemistry and biology. Two laboratories for computer
science and two audio-visual laboratories with multi-functions are
available for those students who are eager to further their in-class
studies.
The number of the current faculty members is 180, of which 112 are
teachers, including two master teachers. Five more master teachers
who were retired are re-employed to direct the school education.
Forty-five teachers hold senior professional titles and forty-six
hold junior professional titles. 1,115 students are divided into
twenty-five classes, from Senior Grade I to III.
The purpose of the School is to lay a solid foundation on basic
knowledge for its students. The School is noted for its perfect
pedagogical methodology and down-to-the-ground attitude towards
education. Drawing strength from the traditional teaching methods,
the School is recently trying every means possible to carry out the
new research work, which to confirm that the inner value of basic
knowledge should be imparted to the kids at school. During the
course, the students are required to learn as much as they can as to
how to behave well, how to care about others and how to estimate
themselves properly. Thanks to its successful moral education and
continual achievements, the School is selected as one of the model
units for basic knowledge education in China.
It goes without saying that the education in senior high schools is
the last stage of the basic knowledge teaching given to the
students, and therefore the School just focuses its attention on the
student's individual growth to meet the ever-changing demands of the
universities. A cozy environment for study is created so as to give
comfort to students with different tastes. The School encourages its
faculty to give guidelines to the students and help them to become
the master of their studies, their school and their country. This
call has evoked quick response among all the teachers. The
self-assurance of the students in the classroom, and the spirit of
competition in the heated debate can be easily found everywhere on
campus and the students' initiatives can be thus well demonstrated.
Having such lovely students here, the teachers are ready to devote
themselves to the education like the candles, which illuminate the
others by burning themselves. Accordingly, the School provides a
better environment for individual growth so that the teachers can
fully notice the potentialities in the kids. The students¡¯ talents
for creation are discovered by means of scientific research on
study, and the school kids here have wonderful performances in
almost all the national and international competitions. The
well-designed composition contest, the academic Olympic contests,
and the Raid Contest of Science & Technology almost always have
their first, second and third winners from our School. These
achievements in turn have added to the fame of the School, of
Shanghai and even of China. Much evidence shows that this progress
has fully demonstrated our students¡¯ high creativity and their
correct attitude to seeking the truth from the facts. Needless to
say, the graduates from this School enjoy a high reputation and are
warmly welcomed by all the institutions of higher education. Among
the 300 students, about one third of them are lucky enough to be
admitted into Fudan University each year. The rest stand a good
chance of going to Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University,
Jiaotong University and East China Normal University.
Geographically, the High School Affiliated to Fudan University has
quite some advantages in its location. It is situated right in the
community surrounded by a few world-famous universities. The most
conspicuous advantage is that it is adjacent to the borough of Fudan
University. Academically, the School has established a close
connection with Fudan University in the education of science and
technology. The reputation and education resources of Fudan will
certainly confer great benefits on the School, and guide our

The Second Affiliated Middle School of Fudan University
 Located
to the south of Fudan, the Second Middle School Affiliated to Fudan
University, with the original name of the Middle School for the
Children of the Faculty & Staff Members of Fudan University, is
under the co-leadership of Fudan University and the Education Bureau
of Yangpu District, Shanghai. Currently it is composed of a junior
middle school and a high school with more than 900 students.
Backed by Fudan University, the School enjoys rich cultural
resources and pays serious attention to broadening its perspectives
and enhancing its communication with the world outside. It invites
foreign students from Britain and American to the spoken English
classes, asks experts and scholars of the University to give
lectures to its students on common subjects of the humanities or
natural sciences, and conducts social activities with Hong Kong and
Japanese students every summer. In a word, it spares no effort on a
good cultural environment for the students' growth.
The School has made great progress in improving the education
facilities in recent years. For example, an Arts and Sports Center
was built in cooperation with the High School Affiliated to Fudan in
1998, and a computer intranet was constructed in 1999 as the
earliest among all the middle schools in Yangpu District of
Shanghai. Recently it has built a class building, which boasts
modern facilities of various kinds and a floor area of 2,000 square
meters.
It has a robust administration team and a group of professional and
efficient teachers, who devote themselves to the students, their
parents, Fudan University and the whole society. They follow the
teaching principles of educating every student according to his or
her potentialities and take an active part in elevating the caliber
of students. And their students never let them down.
In 1996 and 1997, the School's teachers and the Education TV of
Shanghai launched two-month summer camps that catered to the needs
of the middle school students in the summer vacation. In early 1999,
the School's teaching and research unit of Chinese initiated an
influential bimonthly, Lotus Bud in cooperation with sixteen other
middle schools in Shanghai. The magazine has so far undergone
fifteen issues. One third of the School's teachers have published
papers in learned journals and periodicals of Shanghai and won
awards in teaching competitions. The teaching quality of the Second
Affiliated Middle School ranks among the topmost in Yangpu District
and it has a large number of student winners of the national,
municipal and district academic competitions. Particularly worth
mentioning is Quip Kingship, who is a graduate of 2001 and has won
the title of "Scientist of Tomorrow" and "Intel Talented Teenager".
Despite its short history, the School has more than 300 graduates
who later obtained their master's or doctor's degrees.
Primary School Affiliated to Fudan University
 The
Primary School Affiliated to Fudan University has a history of more
than forty years. Acting on the education principle of "Sturdy
Foundation, Special Characteristics, Standard Management, and
All-round Development", it has made much progress in recent years in
all fields. Its school motto is ¡°Preciseness, Industriousness,
Self-confidence, and Politeness¡±.
The school invests abundantly in its hardware transformation. For
example, the class buildings were renovated as had been scheduled in
the Three-year Plan of School Building Reconstruction. It has also
set up a well-equipped audio-visual classroom and a computer room
with more than fifty MMX and Pentium-II computers, which provide a
good environment for education.
This school is equipped with strongly capable teaching faculty. More
than half of the teachers are primary-school advanced teachers. When
recruiting young teachers, the School only selects those who have
excellent academic performances at their formal universities. The
teachers are all professional and have won the first and second
prizes of the municipal and district teaching competitions. They
devote themselves to the cause of education and to their students.
They all have a high sense of responsibility and are reliable to the
students and their parents. The School provides a very positive
atmosphere for studies to more than 800 students in sixteen classes
who are both eager to acquire knowledge and diligent in learning.
Focusing its attention on the students, the School launched a
variety of activities for them to learn skills in practice, such
telling stories of Deng Xiao-ping, and promoting environmental
protection with the slogan of "Love Science, Love Earth". The School
keeps optimizing its operation and education framework, thanks to a
set of strict and standard teaching and administration regulations
and the Network Quality Control System.
In order to better implement caliber-oriented education, the School
boldly and cautiously conducts an educational reform, laying more
stress on the subjects of mathematics, English and computer science.
The School includes English lessons in the normal teaching schedule
for grade-one students in order to cultivate their ability of
listening and speaking.
Computer lessons are also included into the formal courses for
grade-one students, to training the students¡¯ proficiency of
operating and ability of programming. As a result, there are a
number of students who have obtained Elementary Certificates for
Computer Users before graduation. The School is always noted for its
mathematics education and its students have won numerous awards in
the municipal and district competitions. After a period of training,
even grade-one students can skillfully play four-square mathematic
chess.
The teachers of the School will work diligently, creatively and
efficiently to provide quality education for the teenagers.

Chinese Academy of Sciences and former President of Fudan. It also
