The forum on “Integration and Innovation of Urban and Rural Planning” were held at Fudan University from March 10 to March 11, during which the first issue of Urban and Rural Planning was released. The event was co-organized by China Association of City Planning, signifying the deepening cooperation between Fudan and the Association. Zhao Baojiang, Honorary President of the Association, Zhou Taitong, Deputy Head of Shanghai Committee of CPPCC, and Xu Zheng, Vice President of Fudan, attended the forum with other distinguished guests.
Urban and Rural Planning is a comprehensive academic journal published by Fudan University and Shanghai Culture Publication House. The journal is also established as the official publication of the China Association of City Planning, with its first issue released on March, 2017.
The journal, as the fruit of close cooperation between the Association and Fudan, aims to “collect wisdom and advance urban-rural development”. It puts an emphasis on regional development, ecological environment, landscape design, cultural heritage and community governance of urban-rural planning. Also the journal is expected to promote the discipline of urban-rural planning of Fudan.
As a part of the cooperation, a further education program for certified planners will be carried out later. Distinguished guests from top universities and planning institutes will be invited to share their views on the frontiers of urban planning, economics, management, sociology and ecology.
Fudan always value cooperation and innovation in the field of urban-rural panning. Early in November 2014, Urban Development Institute of Fudan University (UDI) was founded. UDI takes the advantage of multiple disciplines at Fudan and aims to become the leading institute in the area both at home and abroad. Integrating the resource of 26 departments and institutes, its core units are School of Social Development and Public Policy, Urban Planning & Architectural Design Institute, and Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. Recently, UDI conducted multiple projects including policy-making consulting services for Shanghai municipal government and designing planning strategies for Shangha. UDI also organized influential events like the Urban Planning Forum of Fudan University. All the efforts have enhanced the University’s impact of Fudan on urban-rural planning.
