NPC deputies and CCPCC members of Fudan live up to their duties

The 5th Session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC)and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CCPCC) were held from March 3 to 15, during which NPC deputies and CCPCC members of Fudan University contributed advices and fulfilled their duties.

The year of 2017 is critical in the 13th Five-Plan period (2016-2020), as it coincides with the 19th National Congress of the CPC. Also, it is the last year of service for the 12th NPC deputies and CCPCC members. The deputies and members from Fudan University had a strong sense of responsibility to close their term of service with excellent performance. Focusing on the main tasks and concerns of the nation, they carried out meticulous researches, collected public opinions, and proposed the corresponding motions and proposals. According to available statistics,24 motions and proposals were raised by the deputies and members from Fudan. During the two sessions, they contributed a great wealth of valuable suggestions, showing their enthusiasm and capacities to participate in the management of state affairs.

Xu Ningsheng, Deputy to NPC, made an address at the meeting of Shanghai deputies on March 5, focusing on deepening of educational reform to enhance the nation’s innovative momentum. He proposed that the implementation of the “double first-class” plan should consider the Chinese characteristics and emphasize cultivation and education. He also remarked that the sound administration of higher education institutions should adapt to the reality of China, ensuring that the Party plays a central role.

Ma Lan, also a deputy to NPC from Fudan, introduced the new development of brain science and artificial intelligence to President Xi. She made some suggestions on the revision of the “National Economic and Social Development Plan” and the “Report on the Work of Supreme People's Procurator”. Professor Ge Jianxiong proposed eight motions regarding the issues of compulsory education, special bonds, driving license, etc.

During the two sessions, suggestions made by deputies and members from Fudan covered issues of education, economy, transportation, and public health, drawing the attention of officials and authorities. The media, including People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency and CCTV, gave a full coverage of their insightful views.
