Singapore Consul-General in Shanghai visits Fudan

On October 30, Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai Mr Chua Teng Hoe visited Fudan University. Madam Jiao Yang, Chairperson of University Council of Fudan University received the delegation.

Chinese and Singaporean leaders exchanged congratulatory messages on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations last month, which reveals a promising future in strengthening the bilateral ties, said Jiao. 


Fudan University attaches great importance to the cooperation and exchanges with Singapore. Supported by Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai, Fudan has fostered mutually beneficial partnerships with Singapore’s Ministry of Education, top universities such as National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University as well as financial and medical institutions.


Facing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Jiao said, Fudan embraces the vision of building a community of shared future for mankind.Domestically, Fudan took immediate measures to safeguard the health of its students, faculty and staff, adopted online learning to replace the traditional in-classroom teaching, and gathered medical forces from hospitals affiliated to Fudan to assist Wuhan, the country’s epicenter of COVID-19 in the early phase of the pandemic, to fight the virus. 


Fudan has also been paying close attention to the virus situations in neighboring countries and keeping in close contact with the international students learning remotely in their home countries, said Jiao. She emphasized that Singapore is well-reputed for its swift responses, effective measures and its remarkably high recovery rate. As Fudan boasts one of the country’s strongest public health discipline, she proposed that Fudan and relevant Singaporean institutions should boost cooperation in public health and environmental engineering to safeguard the well-being of human race. 


Mr Chua Teng Hoe expressed his gratitude for Fudan’s gracious hospitality. He said, looking back at the 30 years of Singapore-China bilateral diplomatic ties, the two countries have worked closely with each other in a wide variety of fields such as economy, trade, social governance, urban planning, business facilitation and technological innovation. He is glad to see Singapore’s cultural exchange with China flourishing and that there are more and more Singaporean students studying at Fudan University each year.

Mr Chua believes that based on mutual understanding and friendship, Fudan and Singapore will explore more areas of cooperation in the future. And he will continue to promote student mobility programs and officials’ training programs between the two countries. 


Vice President of Fudan University Chen Zhimin, Deputy Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai Liew Li Lin, Consul (Political) of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai Danielle Koh, Dean of the School of Economics at Fudan University Zhang Jun, Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University Wu Xinbo, Dean of School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University Su Changhe, also attended the meeting.
