Tan is now Vice Chairman of Lomon Billions Group and Chairman of Henan Yintai Investment Co., Ltd. Since 2019, he has been making donations to the university from time to time. He also set up the Duzhi (Firm Ambition) Lecture Forum in the Chemistry Department and invited prominent scientists to address the forum.

Late last month, Fudan University established the School of Chemistry and Materials Science. On hearing the news, Tan decided to support the development of the school with a large-sum donation.

“I hope that the donation will be used to bring out the full potential of our faculty and staff and attract more talents to join Fudan University. The fund will serve as an incentive to those who contribute to chemistry education.”

The fund will set up six awards:

Ruiqing Boxue (Erudition) Award will be given to faculty who have made outstanding achievements in interdisciplinary integration, social development and national rejuvenation, or global cooperation.

Ruiqing Duzhi (Firm Ambition) Award will be given to faculty who have made education achievements with national impact, generated influential papers or textbooks, or made outstanding contributions to academic and moral education.

Ruiqing Qiewen (Earnest Inquiry) Award will be given to faculty who committed to solving key research problems and making breakthroughs in core technologies critical to national development strategies.

Ruiqing Jinsi (Reflection) Award will be given to faculty who have made innovative research and generated cutting-edge research achievements with global impact.

Ruiqing Gardener Award will be given to faculty who give useful guidance to students and care about the all-round development of students.

Ruiqing Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to faculty who have made critical contributions to the development of the school.

Tan Ruiqing said that the motto of Fudan University, “Rich in knowledge and tenacious of purposes, inquiring with earnestness and reflecting with self-practice”, has been inspiring him from his first day in university. For any problem Tan encounters now at work, he tries to find the root causes. He always tells himself to do what he could to make his alma mater proud.

“Fudan is in my blood. The ideas and methodologies I came up with after graduation are largely due to what I learned during my time in Fudan University.” Today, Lomon Billions Group where he serves as Vice Chairman is the world’s third largest manufacturer of high performance titanium dioxide pigments and the first in Asia in terms of TiO2 pigment production capacity.
