“In the face of changes unseen in a century, we should take the initiative to win the future. Unremitting efforts should be made for national rejuvenation, people’s happiness and the progress of human civilization,” said Fudan University President Xu Ningsheng in a speech during the Class of 2021 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony held on the morning of June 25.
Xu also encouraged the graduating students to make full use of the skills and methods for interdisciplinary studies learned in Fudan, make innovative contributions and achieve win-win results through collaborations. More than 3,000 graduates were conferred bachelor’s degrees at the ceremony.
Undergraduates of the Class of 2021 prepared for the university a gift: a Rubik’s cube box called “Decision of Youth”. The outside of the transparent box is engraved with the emblem and motto of Fudan University, handwritten messages from 31 popular teachers who won the title of “Good Teacher in My Heart” and Fudan’s landmark buildings. Inside the box are the letters written by the undergraduates who expressed their love to their alma mater and their vision for the future.
A 1.5-meter-high enlarged Rubik’s cube box mimicking the undergraduates’ gift is placed in front of Guanghua Building for the students to take photos.
Class of 2021 Graduate Commencement Ceremony was held in the afternoon of the same day.Over 5,000 graduate students were conferred master’s degrees and doctorate degrees.
Xu urged the graduate students to have a global vision and set lofty goals. He hopes the graduates to pursue excellence, strive for innovation, serve the country and make contribution to the country’s development.
The graduates also presented to their alma mater a special gift: The Development Plan of In² Fudan Interdisciplinary Exchange Platform for Graduate Students. The exponent 2 in In² stands for two English words: “integration” and “innovation”. According to the development plan, information of interdisciplinary lectures, cutting-edge technologies and project collaboration opportunities will be shared on the platform to cultivate the innovative thinking ability of Fudan’s graduate students. The brain-shaped logo for the platform is composed of 18,738 frequent used words in the graduation theses of the Class of 2021.
