By

On May 31, a delegation from the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina, led by Cecilia Moreau, president of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina, visited Fudan University.

Jin Li, president of Fudan University extended a warm welcome to Moreau and the delegation. He emphasized that Fudan has a long-standing relationship with Argentina, with several Argentine leaders having previously visited Fudan. Fudan University, along with the Argentine member universities of the Fudan-Latin America University Consortium (FLAUC), such as the University of Buenos Aires and the National University of La Plata, have collaborated on numerous interdisciplinary research projects. Internationalization has always been a pivotal strategy for the university. We look forward to fostering exchanges, strengthening cooperation in education, culture and technology, and exploring new areas of collaboration between the two countries.

Moreau expressed her gratitude for the warm reception extended by Fudan University. She highlighted the importance of education and technology to a country’s overall development. She said, there is significant potential for cooperation between China and Argentina in addressing shared challenges including public health, climate change, and food safety. Moreau recognized Fudan University as a world-renowned institution with high academic and research standards, and expressed her hope for profound collaboration between Argentine universities and Fudan in the future.

Máximo Kirchner, member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception that Fudan University accorded to his parents, the former Argentine President Néstor Carlos Kirchner and his wife Cristina Fernández Kirchner (later became the first female president in Argentine history) during their visit to Fudan University in 2004. He also thanked Fudan for conferring an honorary doctorate upon his father and appreciated China’s assistance to Argentina over the years. China and Argentina are good friends and partners. This visit to China holds great significance for him as it marks his first trip abroad in the past 20 years.

Tanya Bertoldi, Diego Sartori and Paula Penacca, members of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies, Luciano Tanto Clement, consul general of Argentina in Shanghai, and representatives from the Argentine Embassy in China and the Consulate General in Shanghai, along with Vice President Chen Zhimin of Fudan University, as well as representatives and scholars from the Office of Global Partnerships, the Fudan Institute of Belt and Road and Global Governance, the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, and the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, among others, participated in the meeting.
