  • Zhongshan Hospital

    Zhongshan Hospital is a major teaching hospital affiliated to the Ministry of Health of China. It was founded in 1937 in commemoration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great pioneer in the Chinese democratic revolution. Affiliated to the State Medical College of Shanghai, it was then the first large hospital run by the Chinese.

    Through 76 years of development, Zhongshan Hospital now covers an area of 95,892 M2 and has 356,206 M2 of buildings. The hospital has 1,700 beds serving 84,000 inpatients and 3,111,000 outpatients and emergency in 2013. Among its 3,433 medical staffs are 437 professors and associate professors, 1,219 physicians, 1,340 nurses, 401 technicians, 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

    The hospital has all medical divisions, except pediatrics, excelling in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, liver cancer, renal and pulmonary diseases, etc.18 disciplines have been designated as the National Clinical Key Disciplines (gastroenterology, clinical lab, anesthesiology, cardiology, endocrinology, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, nursing, traditional Chinese medicine, pulmonary medicine, nephrology,general surgery, ICU, oncology, medical imaging, organ transplantation, emergency and neurology) and 2 as the Shanghai clinical centers (cardiovascular diseases and liver cancer).Having their head offices set up in the hospital, the Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, the Liver Cancer Institute of Fudan University, the Shanghai Institute of Radiology, the Shanghai Institute of Rehabilitation with Integrated western and Chinese Traditional Medicine, the Shanghai Institute of Hepatopathy, the Institute of Respiratory Diseases of Fudan University, the Institute of Vascular Surgery of Fudan University, the Institute of General Surgery of Fudan University, the Institute of Endoscopic research of Fudan University and the Nuclear Medicine Institute of Fudan University have become the major research centers of the hospital. The Organ Transplantation Center, Fudan University, is another feature of the hospital. Renal, liver and heart transplantations have already become routine practice. The Shanghai quality control centers for in-hospital infection, ultrasound, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cardiology and general surgery are also attached to the hospital. The hospital is also renowned for its strength in abdominal surgery, orthopedics, interventional radiology, ultrasound diagnosing and integrated treatment of western and traditional medicine.

    Zhongshan Hospital is undertaking annually some 100 major research projects supported by the Nation, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the Municipal Government. Nearly 100 items have been awarded for distinguished achievements in research by the central or local government in recent years. As a cradle for the medical talents, the hospital has 15 stations for Ph.D. students, 21 stations for master students, 1 post-doctoral mobile stations, 15 residency training bases and 19 specialists training bases authorized by the national or local government. Over 50 series of national continuous education courses are held inside the hospital each year.

    Zhongshan Hospital is well installed with advanced equipment including PET-CT, digital subtraction angiographer, linear accelerator, multislice spiral CT, 3.0T magnetic resonance scanner, single photon emission computed tomographer, digital radiographer, high energy ultrasound treatment apparatus, shock wave lithotripsy apparatus, duplex scanner, electro-gastroscope, intensive care system, teleconsultation system and teleeducation system. The hospital has achieved network administration.

  • Children’s Hospital

    Children’s Hospital of Fudan University is a tertiary medical center for children certified by the Ministry of Health of China. Since founded in 1952, it has been dedicated to providing the pediatric patient care, education and research. It has been consistently granted as the model unit by Shanghai Municipal Government since 2000.

    The hospital aims to be one of the major pediatric medical centers in China and Asia, to be an educational center on pediatric medicine with national influence, and to build up a bridge of academic exchanges on pediatrics for experts from China and abroad.

    At present, the hospital has 693 beds and more than 1100 staffs, including 105 faculties. It has 31 clinical and technical departments providing excellent service for children from China and abroad. Many programs such as neonatology, cardiology, surgery, critical and emergency medicine, and infectious disease have been granted major disciplines or key clinical subspecialties by Ministry of Health.

    The hospital is the Residency Training Base for pediatrician and pediatric surgeon. More than 6800 pediatricians around the country have been trained in the hospital until 2010. Over 30 national continuing medical education (CME) courses were held annually. It provides training programs for master and doctoral degrees, and postdoctoral fellowship as well.

    The hospital owns strong scientific research capability. During the last ten years the hospital has been undertaking 325 research projects. It has won 19 national and provincial Awards of Science and Technology Progress. More than 60 papers have been published on English journals and over 200 in Chinese journals.

    International academic exchanges have consistently been put on a high priority. Annually, the hospital hosts more than 100 lectures delivered by foreign experts. Partner relationship has been established with more than 20 medical institutes abroad. A series of international symposia have been successfully held, including the Shanghai International Pediatric Forum, Shanghai International Neonatology Forum, Symposium on Pediatric Cardiovascular Disease, etc.

  • The Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital

    The Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University (Shanghai Red House Ob & Gyn Hospital) is an academic center developed on the basis of Xi Men Women and Children Hospital– a missionary hospital and the first women and children hospital in Shanghai donated by an American woman, Ms. Margaret Williamson in 1884. Over the one hundred years, the hospital has been called by the local residents as “Red House Hospital” since the roof of its building is shining red under the sunshine. The hospital is “AAA” tertiary care specialty hospital, Shanghai Red Cross Ob & Gyn Hospital, and Model Unit in Shanghai.

    With the consistent efforts of generations of people over more than one hundred years at Shanghai Red House Ob & Gyn Hospital led by Prof. Shuzhen Wang, a pioneer of modern obstetric and gynecological services in China, the hospital has now developed into a national leading academic center specialized in women’s healthcare with two hospital branches (named Huangpu branch and Yangpu branch respectively), occupying a space of 4.33 hectare with a total floor space of 84600 square meters. The hospital has a bed capacity of 820 and 14 clinical and auxiliary departments, providing clinical service to over 1,300,000 outpatients and 46,000 inpatients, both of which are the highest among the three Ob&Gyn specialized hospitals in Shanghai. The hospital owns several clinical departments as the department of Gynecolcogy, Obstetrics, Family planning, Chinese Medicine combined with Western Medicine, Neonatology, Cervical disease center and mammary gland branch, etc. The Department of Obstetrics and the Department Gynecology are elected as the national key clinics in 2010.   • Shanghai Cancer Center

    Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center was established in 1931, which is the first hospital specializing in cancer in China. FUSCC is now an AAA (a sign of top hospitals according to the evaluation system by Chinese Ministry of Health) comprehensive cancer center under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, P. R. China. As the only comprehensive cancer center in Shanghai, FUSCC has the overwhelming advantage of specialized multidisciplinary cancer treatment. It is also a non-profit organization and a university-affiliated hospital devoted to the healthcare of the cancer patients. A history of eighty years has made a trustworthy reputation for the center.

    FUSCC focus on the early diagnostic and early treatment of cancer with multidisciplinary treatment that strictly follows international standards. Surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), interventional therapy and biotherapy are combined to yield optimal outcomes.

    The oncology program has become the key Oncology Discipline of National Education Ministry starting since 1989. After 80 years of development, the center has become the leader among other cancer centers in China in the area of radiation oncology, pathology, breast cancer and colorectal cancer. The center is also the headquarter of the municipal QC centers for pathology, radiation oncology and chemotherapy. In particular, our tumor pathology has been designated as a key discipline of the Shanghai Health Bureau, and our radiation oncology and breast cancer disciplines have been chosen to be part of the Shanghai Municipal Clinical Center. The center is affiliated with the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association.

    Currently, FUSCC has a staff of 1,418, including 1,139 are medical professionals, 138 professors and associate professors, 24 doctorial student supervisors, and 53 master student mentors. Professor Guo-liang Jiang and Professor Tai-fu Liu are the honorary fellows of American College of Radiology (ACR).

    The center now has 1,100 beds, with an annual out-patient visit load of 592,441 and an annual in-patient admission of 22,515. Yearly there are 4,700 patients receiving radiotherapy and 14,454 patients receiving surgery here.

    The advanced facilities includes LINACs, 60Co, after loading Brachy therapy machine, CT simulators, TPS, PET/CT, SPECT, spiral CT, MRI and digital mammography.

    Since 1959, 371 students have graduated from the hospital-based training and teaching programs, including 116 with Ph.D. degrees and 146 with master’s degree. The oncology program has become the key Oncology Discipline of National Education Ministry starting from 1989. As a cradle for Ph.D.s and post doctors in oncology, the hospital now has 24 professors who supervise Ph.D. students, and 53 professors who supervise master students.

    Authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Health, the hospital has organized many classes for advanced trainees in the fields of pathology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology since 1954. To date, thousands of Chinese doctors have been trained in these classes. For the last 10 years, there have been ten national-certificated continuing education programs carried out nationally.

    In our efforts in fighting cancer, we are constantly exploring its pathogenesis and etiology, developing its early diagnose and treatment and finding its essence of an optimal strategy for prevention and combined-modality treatment, and these research activities have lead to the establishment of Cancer Institution of Fudan University in our center. Now we have state-of-the-art equipment and technology of cell biology, molecular biology and genetics as well as breeding rooms for animals and nude mice in this institution, and we are now implementing numerous studies on molecular, cellular and xenograft models. In 2009, we were awarded 72 scientific research projects, and the total research funds reached 12.522 million Yuan, and we published 165 scientific papers, including 82 in internationally recognized journals and 65 in well-regarded professional journals. We also compiled seven publications and obtained one patent. Additionally, we received the Chinese Medical Association Third Price Award entitledThe establishment and application of precise radiotherapy techniques for primary liver cancer. and Shanghai Medical Association Second Price Award entitled The research on mechanisms of lung metastasis of breast cancer and its clinical application..

    We are working towards one of the best cancer centers in Asia by expanding our connection to the world’s best cancer centers. FUSCC established a sister institute with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2003, The Cancer Institute, Singapore Healthcare Group in 2005, Institute Gustave-Roussy in 2008, and Cancer Research Institute of Kanazawa University in 2010. Every year many of our faculties go overseas to receive training and to present the seminars. We had extraordinary international exchange in 2009, including 46 groups of 132 medical experts coming from many countries such as Japan, Britain, France, USA, Germany, and Italy to have visited the center and given 36 lectures. During the year, the center successfully hosted nine major international conferences. We are trying our best to host high-quality international conferences and to participate in international symposia, because our guests see China through us, and we stand for China in the eyes of the world..

  • Shanghai Public Health clinical Center

    Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (SPHCC) is a first -class tertiary hospital affiliated to Fudan University which is funded by Shanghai Municipal Government. On November 16th, 2004, the Center launched into operation with integrated clinical treatment, teaching, scientific research and handling of emergent public health events. It is the Shanghai Institute for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases, and serves as the training base in advanced studies of infectious disease for physicians across the country; and is designated as HIV/AIDS education and training center by Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, also providing a clinical base for ShanghaiMunicipalCenter for Disease Control and Prevention. It also provides the consultation and rescue center for seriously ill pregnant and parturient women in Shanghai, and is the Shanghai municipal center for monitoring obstetric liver diseases. It is an affiliated organization of the Center for Quality Control of Clinical Infectious Diseases in Shanghai, and is the Shanghai Center for AIDS Diagnosis. Additionally, the center was granted the certification as a Drug Clinical Trial Institution by SFDA.


    The Center is located in Jinshan District of Shanghai, covers an area of 33.3 hectares and has a building area of 10,0229 square meters. It's also an important part of Improving Public Health System Construction. The center has more than 700 staff, including experts and professionals from ZhongshanHospital , HuashanHospital affiliated to FudanUniversity, Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, and the original ShanghaiInfectiousDiseaseHospital, etc. It is equipped with 500 beds, admitting patients with various notifiable infectious diseases including viral hepatitis, hepatitis in pregnancy, liver cirrhosis, typhoid, Japanese B encephalitis ,epidemic hemorrhagic fever, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, purulent and tubercular meningitis, intestinal infectious diseases, AIDS, tetanus, rabies, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, infectious atypical pneumonia, etc. SPHCC is the designated institution in Shanghai to receive and treat emerging infectious diseases.
