Congratulations to the award-winning works by Fudan students!

The chorus “Your Light” (original song) and “Chaotian Song” by Fudan University Student Choir

First prize of the instrument group:

Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 performed by Fudan University String Orchestra

First prize of the Excellent Case of College Aesthetic Education Reform and Innovation:

“Expand the Vision of Aesthetic Education: Frontier Education Design and Curriculum Construction in Art and Science”

Second prize of art works:

Student Wang Zhi’s work “ Stay at Home”

The original chorus “Your Light” by the Fudan University Student Choir expresses the solidarity of the Chinese nation during the most trying times of the pandemic. The song goes from gentle to intense, and ends with what is close to shouting, expressing the determination to conquer the pandemic.

The choir’s other entry “Chaotian Song” adopts a song written by Zhang Yanghao from the Yuan Dynasty and uses modern composition techniques to depict a peaceful and pleasant scene of life.

Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 was inspired by the composer’s visit to the ruins of a postwar city.

The music is divided into five movements. On the basis of retaining the essence of the original work, Fudan University String Orchestra adapted it into a chamber music version with three first violins, two second violins, two violas, three cellos and one double bass.

The original play “Snow Grass” by Fudan Drama Club tells the story of five botany graduate students who went to Tibet to look for Snow Lotus, a precious plant that grows at places 6,000 meters above sea level in honor of Professor Zhong Yang of School of Life Science of Fudan University who died in a car accident when working in Inner Mongolia in 2017. The play encourages us to learn from Professor Zhong Yang’s devotion to scientific research. He spent decades in the most remote areas of China for botanic research and preservation.
