Xu talked with freshmen in their dormitory rooms.

After the on-site visition, Xu sat down and talked to freshmen representatives from the five Fudan Colleges. The students shared their first impressions of Fudan University and their academic interests and plans for the next few years in Fudan.

Xu hopes the students to bear in mind the mission of national rejuvenation and strive to become talents working in the most needed sectors of China. He said, it is important for the students to find a path of academic development that contributes to the realization of national development strategies. They should participate in or undertake major research projects which will lay a solid foundation for the students to make achievements recognized by the entire world in the future.

He stressed that the university will continue to put students’ personal development at the center of Fudan’s education, allow students to choose the courses they are interested in by offering diverse courses and allow them to study and conduct research independently by making good use of Fudan’s abundant resources.

He said that Fudan is constantly improving the art and sports facilities on campus to cultivate students’ talents in all aspects apart from academic excellence in their majors.

At the end of the face-to-face meeting, Xu gave them souvenir stamps commemorating the 100th anniversary of the completion of the first Chinese translation of the Communist Manifesto as a gift and Fudan mooncakes to convey his Mid-Autumn Festival greetings.
