Fudan University Delegation Conducts Educational Cooperation and Exchange in Kazakhstan and Russia

Fudan University has always attached great importance to international student recruitment and promotion, actively going global to systematically showcase its Study-in-China programs, expand international cooperation channels, strengthen connections with target schools and their students, and promote the Study at Fudan brand, thereby continuously enhancing the universitys international influence.

 

From November 17 to 22, 2025, a six-member delegation from Fudan University, led by Su Kui, Director of the International Students Office, and including Gao Yue, Vice Dean of the College of Future Information Technology, Deng Mingli, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Guo Yang, Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism, along with staff from the International Students Admission Office, visited Kazakhstan and Russia for educational cooperation and exchange. The visit aimed to expand the student source market in Belt and Road countries, promote the Study at Fudan brandand further deepen Fudan Universitys international education cooperation.


Kazakhstan: Deepening University Cooperation and Expanding Educational Opportunities

 

In Kazakhstan, the Fudan delegation visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, South Kazakhstan State University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, and KIMEP University, engaging in in-depth discussions with university leaders and department heads to explore cooperation opportunities.

 

The delegations first stop was Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, one of the top-ranking and most influential comprehensive research universities in Central Asia, with notable strengths in Big Data, M aterials Science, and Communications. First Vice-Rector Duissenov Yerkin introduced the universitys academic influence in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, as well as its educational cooperation with China. Director Su Kui presented an overview of Fudan University, including international exchanges and the development of the Study at Fudan brand. Both sides expressed the hope of building on the inter-university memorandum of understanding signed in 2023 to further advance practical cooperation in relevant disciplines, international student recruitment, and faculty-student exchanges.

 

During meetings with departmental and research leaders, Gao Yue, Deng Mingli, and Guo Yang introduced their respective schools and engaged with counterparts on potential cooperation in AI, Chemistry, and Tourism, including English-taught masters joint programs and dual-degree collaborations.



President of South Kazakhstan State University, Darkhan Akhmed-Zaki, made a special visit to Al-Farabi University to engage in in-depth discussions with the delegation. At Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and KIMEP University, the delegation explored diverse cooperation models, such as key disciplines, short-term programs, summer schools, and dual degrees, further strengthening academic ties with Central Asian institutions.

During the campus visits, the Fudan delegation also engaged directly with local students, introducing Fudan Universitys international student programs, application requirements, and scholarship policies. The sessions were met with enthusiasm, with many students expressing strong interest in studying at Fudan University.



The delegation also visited the Chinese Consulate in Almaty, where Education Counselor Huang Xiaomin provided insights into current China-Kazakhstan educational cooperation and offered suggestions to enhance Fudan Universitys local influence, including active participation in education fairs, expanding scholarship types, and partnering with Confucius Institutes to develop study tours, providing valuable guidance for Fudans future educational exchanges in Central Asia.


Russia: Strengthening Secondary School Cooperation and Promoting Sino-Russian Exchanges


In Russia, the Fudan delegation visited Moscow School No. 1517 and School No. 548 to promote Chinese language teaching, youth exchanges, Russian teacher training, and student recruitment, further enhancing cooperation with Russian secondary schools and expanding cultural exchange channels.



Moscow School No. 1517, a well-known K12 school in Moscow, is recognized for high-level Chinese language instruction and has frequently hosted the Chinese Bridge national Chinese language competitions for secondary students. The school emphasizes language learning combined with cultural experience and deepens students understanding of Chinese culture through summer camps and other activities. The delegation was warmly welcomed with traditional Chinese lion dance and fan dance performances.


Fudan representatives held detailed discussions with the schools leadership and Chinese teaching team on student recruitment, faculty-student exchanges, and customized short-term programs, reaching a consensus on future cooperation directions. The delegation also visited classrooms to interact with teachers and students.



Moscow School No. 548, a large and well-equipped secondary school with a strong reputation, has offered Chinese language courses since 2005 and actively promotes Sino-Russian cultural exchange through events such as Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and International Chinese Day. The delegation toured the campus and teaching facilities and presented information on Fudan Universitys programs for international students.



During the visit, the delegation participated in the Sino-Russian Education Festival hosted by the The National University of Science and Technology (Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys), organized by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The event brought together representatives from both countries education ministries, government departments, and academic experts to prepare for the upcoming Sino-Russian Year of Education. Director Su Kui attended the roundtable discussion and delivered a presentation titled Deepening Sino-Russian Educational Cooperation, Building Bridges for Cultural Exchange”, providing a comprehensive overview of Fudan Universitys collaboration with Russian institutions, international student programs, and training models. She emphasized that educational cooperation is a crucial component of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia, playing a key role in fostering mutual understanding and cultivating international talent.



The delegation also visited the Chinese Embassy in Russia, where Counselor Cao Shihai discussed the current landscape of Sino-Russian educational cooperation and future trends. Cao highlighted that approximately 100,000 students currently participate in bilateral exchanges, with academic visits, dual-degree programs, and Chinese language learning being key areas of collaboration. He encouraged Fudan University to expand ties with Russian universities and secondary schools, seize cooperation opportunities, and enrich program types to lay a solid foundation for deeper Sino-Russian educational cooperation.
