International Fudaners motivated by President Xi’s letter

By

Chinese President Xi Jinpingencouraged overseas students at Peking University in a recent letter to gain a deeper understanding of China, urging them to share their thoughts and experiences living in China and to continue to play an active role in promoting friendships between the peoples of different countries.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made remarks on June 21 in his reply to 45 representatives of overseas students from 32 countries who are studying at Peking University.

“To understand today's China, one must understand the CPC,” Xi wrote in the letter.

“You mentioned that the CPC has committed itself to developing the economy, eradicating poverty and actively assisting other countries in fighting COVID-19,” said Xi. “The CPC is committed to these aims because it is a political party that strives for both the well-being of the Chinese people and human progress.”

“Seeing is believing,” said Xi, inviting overseas students to visit more parts of the country.

The 45 representatives of Peking University overseas students recently wrote a letter to Xi, sending their best wishes ahead of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

In the letter, they conveyed the thoughts and experiences they have had while studying and living in China, and expressed their appreciation of the achievements China has made under the CPC's leadership, as well as their recognition of the CPC’s people-centered philosophy of development.

International students at Fudan University, also motivated by President Xi’s letter, shared their impression of their life and study in China.

Since I arrived in China, I have been enjoying day by day the convenience especially brought by my smartphone, which can be used for communication, payments, travel bookings, health services, food and parcel delivery and many more services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I can honestly say, I was never afraid or felt unsafe staying in China. China’s pandemic control strategy is clearly successful, especially when put in the global picture compared to the rest of the world.

I think, I can speak at least for all international students that we all are appreciating very much our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study in China at this time. I'm looking forward to the next 100 years of the CPC. As mentioned in Laozi, “千里之行,始于足下” (A thousand miles’ journey begins with the first step), I’m excited about the further achievements of the CPC.

President Xi said in a letter to the students of Peking University, “To understand today’s China, one must understand the CPC”, which I think is quite true. The great effort made by the CPC has helped China eradicate poverty and keep marching along a new development path. Today, China is able to handle difficult issues like COVID-19 pandemic and China is sharing its experience of pandemic control and providing millions of vaccines to needed countries.

As an alumnus of Fudan University, I feel very proud that China has provided great health support, especially vaccines, for Nepal during the pandemic. On behalf of Nepali people, I would like to thank China for its effort in saving many lives in Nepal. China has proven a true friend in need of ours.

This year marks the 100th founding anniversary of the CPC, I would like to congratulate the CPC on its 100th anniversary, and I fully agree with Xi’s vision of building a community with a shared future of mankind.

I strongly agree with what President Xi has mentioned in his reply that to understand today’s China, one must understand the CPC. This got me reflecting about my past four years in China. One of my goals when I came to China was to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a doctor, explore and get to know about Chinese culture and make use of every opportunity and resource I find. Over the course of my stay in China, I have been greatly inspired by the healthcare system in China. I hope one day to bring all that I am learning back to Africa.

China is a land which is deeply enriched with culture that dates back to thousands of years ago, and it has also become a place that is filled with plenty of opportunities and that allows everyone to grow and reach their full potential. This is because of the leadership and hard work of the CPC. I will always remember the sense of security that I have felt, the amazing people that I have met and how convenient my life has been here. I can gladly say China is my second home. Happy 100th anniversary to the CPC.

It is very remarkable to note how the CPC has effectively managed the economy slowdown during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, and also the rapid response and outstanding success recorded in fighting the pandemic. One couldn’t but marvel at the “joint participation of the whole society” which was a key contributing factor in dealing with the pandemic. As an international student, I was overwhelmed by the dedication and commitment exhibited by Fudan University in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students. A significant lesson for the world to learn from China is the discipline and solidarity of the Chinese people, so that the world can move towards human progress and the common good.

I feel very excited to read the reply of President Xi to the international students at PKU. I am profoundly honored after knowing that the CPC is striving for both the well-being of the Chinese people and human progress. The CPC has enabled China to develop faster and has made remarkable achievements in a short period. With the pandemic spreading all over the world, China has responded well. Chinese people have displayed the highest sense of collective responsibility and organizational discipline in response to the pandemic. I trust China's “win-win” development strategy that is based on peaceful coexistence, socialist modernization and innovative development.
