The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has declared the Beijing 2022 Winter Games to be "the most gender-balanced" Winter Games in history, according to Prensa Latina, Cuba-based news agency.

Prensa Latina reported that Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics “is the most gender-balanced Olympic Winter Games to date, with women accounting for a record 45 percent of the athletes," citing data released by the IOC.

According to IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell, the ratio of female athletes participating in this year’s Winter Olympics is unprecedented, with 1325 female athletes out of 2902 athletes competing this year.

McConnell pointed out that the ratio of female athletes in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics was only 41%. The Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee sought to do a better job in promoting female participation in the Games.

The Cuba-based news agency also said that IOC aims to achieve gender parity before the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics takes place.
