Fudan University President Jin Li visits UK

From January 22 to 25, Jin Li, president of Fudan University, was invited to attend the UK Biobank International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) meeting, and visited University of Southampton, University of Surrey, University of Cambridge and the University of Warwick for multi-disciplinary and multidimensional cooperation in teaching, research and integration between industry and education.

 

At University of Southampton, President Jin and Andrew Atherton, vice-president International and Engagement at University of Southampton had an in-depth exchange of educational collaboration in several disciplines. The two sides agreed to leverage their respective strengths to develop joint educational programs. Jin and Mark E. Smith, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Southampton, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the cooperation between the two universities.

 

At University of Surrey, President and Vice-Chancellor G Q Max Lu made an introduction to the disciplinary development in Surrey. Jin hoped that the two sides could further expand cooperation areas on the basis of existing cooperation areas such as wireless communication, and carry out joint teaching, teacher and student exchanges and scientific research cooperation. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the two sides.

 

In Cambridge, President Jin exchanged views with David Cardwell, pro-vice-chancellor at University of Cambridge and Alan Short, president of Clare Hall, on further strengthening cooperation between the two sides, and had in-depth exchanges on neuroscience, psychiatry, oncology and other fields with Ed Bullmore, deputy dean of School of Clinical Medicine at University of Cambridge, and some other colleagues.


At the University of Warwick, President Jin met with Vice-Chancellor and President Stuart Croft, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Michael Scott, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor Gu Sai, and exchanged insights on deepening strategic cooperation between the two universities. The two sides committed to further expand and deepen high-quality cooperation in more fields through the establishment of seed funding on the basis of existing cooperation in fields of humanities and social sciences, and signed a letter of intent for cooperation.

 

During his stay in London, Jin visited Fudan alumnus and university board member Huo Yan. Jin also exchanged views with some young Chinese scholars in the UK.
