Fudan renews PhD cotutelle agreement with Macquarie University

On April 19, QIU Xin, chairman of Fudan University Council met with Bruce Dowton, vice-chancellor and president of Macquarie University to renew PhD cotutelle agreement, marking a significant step in the ongoing partnership between the two universities.

Bruce Dowton expressed his delight at revisiting Fudan, highlighting the university’s status as a key partner with whom Macquarie has engaged in numerous research collaborations over the years. He stated that the renewal of the cotutelle agreement would further deepen the collaborative relationship between the two universities. He emphasized Macquarie’s commitment to fostering high-quality partnerships and looked forward to enhancing cooperation with Fudan in various fields, including research, curriculum, and student and faculty exchanges.

QIU Xin, acknowledging the longstanding friendship between the two universities, which has spanned 31 years, highlighted the significance of renewing the agreement on the occasion of Macquarie University’s 60th anniversary. He described the renewal as an affirmation of past collaborative efforts and an important opportunity for future development.

Founded in 1964, Macquarie University is a research-oriented public university located in Sydney, Australia, within one of the largest business and technology precincts in the Southern Hemisphere. It excels in disciplines such as linguistics, philosophy, data science and artificial intelligence, and audiology.

Accompanying delegates from Macquarie University include Rorden Wilkinson, deputy vice-chancellor (academic), Patrick McNeil, deputy vice-chancellor (medicine and health), Taryn Jones, pro vice-chancellor (education), and Stephen Fan, director of Global Partnerships and Protocol. CHEN Zhimin, vice president of Fudan University, along with attendees from various departments and faculties, joined the meeting.
