This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Education at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.
Addressing the event, Xi said that China-Russia educational cooperation has continued to deepen and yielded notable results over the years, enriching the connotation of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.
Taking the China-Russia Years of Education as an opportunity, the two sides should further build consensus on cooperation, expand areas of cooperation and elevate the level of cooperation, Xi said.
Jin Li, president of Fudan University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Education.
The Agreement on the Double Degree Master’s Program between Fudan University and National Research University Higher School of Economics was included in the list of outcome documents from the meeting between the two heads of state during Putin’s visit to China.
That same day, Jin met with Nikita Anisimov, rector of HSE University. They had in-depth discussions on advancing practical cooperation between the two institutions and signed the agreement on the double degree master’s program.
Jin noted that the partnership between the two universities serves as a concrete initiative in implementing the China-Russia Years of Education and deepening people-to-people exchanges and knowledge sharing between the two countries. Noting the strong foundation of their partnership, Jin expressed hope that the two universities will diversify cooperation models in the future, with a focus onjoint talent cultivation and research cooperation in areas such as life sciences and interdisciplinary studies.
Anisimov said that HSE University greatly values its partnerships with China and with Fudan University, and looks forward to more substantial cooperation in areas such as joint doctoral training and the establishment of joint laboratories.
HSE University is a leading comprehensive research university in Russia, known for its strengths in economics, social sciences, mathematics, computer science, and public policy, as well as its reputation for interdisciplinary research and international education. The newly signed Double Master’s Degree Program in international business will be delivered jointly by Fudan’s School of Economics and HSE Graduate School of Business. Eligible graduates will be conferred master’s degrees awarded by both universities respectively.
